Q&A with Mary Helen Lee, Taylor Medalist and Multi-Disciplinary Studies Outstanding Senior
Major: Multi-Disciplinary Studies
Hometown: Hernando, MS
Q: Did anyone in particular make an impact on you while you attended UM-DeSoto?
A: Evening class with Dr. Pat Coats and all my psychology classes with Mr. Charlie Aaron – there is a wonderful sense of community at the DeSoto campus. My advisor Valerie Haynes was a wonderful guide the last few years. She helped so much with my apprehension about technology and many other concerns I had about courses.
Q: What are some of your fondest memories of attending UM-DeSoto?
A: I was very anxious starting Ole Miss. I am an older student – would I feel out of place? Could I handle all my responsibilities – family, work, full course load? With both Ms. Pat and Mr. Aaron, I immediately felt their genuine care and concern for my academic success. Ms. Pat made our class feel like family and she was our devoted (firm, fair, and loving) “mother hen” in a sweet way – love Ms. Pat! Even after a LONG day at work (Pre-K teacher), I looked forward to my late afternoon psychology classes with Mr. Aaron. I appreciate how he conducts his classes – always fair, relatable and encouraging and he sprinkles his lectures with a hearty dose of humor!
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: I plan to continue work in Early Childhood Education as Pre-K 4 teacher at Incarnation Catholic School in Collierville, TN.
