Registration

Registration for all off-campus locations will be conducted on the dates indicated in the Academic Calendar. Early registration for classes is encouraged. The University reserves the right to limit enrollment, to cancel any class, to reschedule or postpone any class, or to limit registration by degree level. Registration is complete when a student is fully admitted to the university and fee payment is made. Please keep your receipt for fee payment or taxes.

Withdrawal And Refund

Deadline dates for withdrawals are listed in the academic calendar.

Refunds are computed based on the time of official notification of withdrawal on the following schedule. A full refund will be granted if the class is cancelled.

Textbooks

  1. When the My Account Information page comes up, you will need to create an account.  (You will only do this the first time; after that, your account will be there.)  Fill out the requested information.
  2. Click continue, and you will receive an e-mail confirming your account information.
  3. The main page will appear.  Under the categories on the left side of the screen, click on the term for which you are ordering books.
  4. Then click on the department in which the course is taught.  You will then see a list of all the courses being taught in that department.
  5. Click on the course and the section for which you are enrolled, and the required texts will appear.
  6. Choose new or used and click on “Buy Now.”  You will then see your shopping cart.
  7. To order another book, click “Continue Shopping.”
  8. Repeat the process until all books are ordered.
  9. Click on “Checkout.”
  10. Choose the shipping method; you can only choose one.
  11. Click continue to go to Payment Information.
  12. Choose the payment method and supply necessary information. (You are working on a secure server, and if you choose to use a credit card, as soon as the books are charged, the card information will be dumped from the system.)  Then click “Continue.”
  13. Order Confirmation page will appear.  Check the information and if correct, click “Confirm Order.”  To change anything click on edit.
  14. You will receive e-mail confirmation of your order.

If your books don’t appear on the list, send an e-mail to outbooks@olemiss.edu.

Room Assignments

Room assignments will be posted in the DeSoto Center - Southaven office, prior to the first class meeting.

Email & Blackboard Accounts

UM-DeSoto students need to apply for an email account through the University of Mississippi - DeSoto Center office. Lynn Reece, Educational Coordinator, will submit your request to the University of Mississippi Office of Information Technology.

Faculty/Course Evaluations

The faculty/course evaluation system, as conducted on the Oxford Campus, occurs at the DeSoto Center - Southaven Campus during Fall and Spring semesters.

Breaks

Vending machines are located on the 3rd floor. Students must consume food and beverages prior to returning to classrooms. No food or beverages are allowed in classrooms. Smoking is not permitted inside the building.

Vehicle Registration And Parking

DeSoto Center NWCC parking decals are required for all vehicles. Decals may be purchased for $10 with cash or check at the UM DeSoto office. Safe, convenient, and ample parking is available at the DeSoto Center. Parking spaces are marked reserved for faculty and for persons with disabilities. Northwest faculty arrive at 6:15 p.m., so please park in student parking only. Any non- reserved parking spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis. Campus police staff are provided through a grant to Northwest Mississippi Community College.

Emergency Closings/Class Cancellations

In the event that an instructor must cancel class, the UM - DeSoto Center office will contact students as early as possible by phone.

Closings of the DeSoto Center due to weather conditions will be announced by local radio/television stations and on this website. The University of Mississippi - DeSoto Center's closing dates correspond to the closing dates of Northwest Mississippi Community college.

FIRE Continuous siren or verbal instructions

In case of fire all students and personnel should calmly leave the building by way of the nearest exit. DO NOT USE THE ELEVATOR.

TORNADO Interrupted siren or verbal instructions

All students and personnel must exit the upper floors through the stairwell at the center of the building. Once on the ground floor where the library is located, move into the public corridor. If extra space is needed, please use the utility corridor until everyone is safely on ground level.

EARTHQUAKE Telephone, radio or verbal instructions

In case of an earthquake, all students and personnel should stay inside the building, drop to the floor, and move away from falling objects, perhaps under a desk.
