Students will:

• Learn about the special problems and skill involved in solving economic or social problems in a community through entrepreneurship
• Travel to the Mississippi Delta for a service-learning experience and gain a better understanding of regional poverty and the power to effect change in communities
• Examine what it means to be a values-based entrepreneur
• Experience the natural environment of the Delta during a canoeing trip on the Mississippi River with the Quapaw Canoe Company
• Enjoy a “Blues Night” where students will travel to the Blues Museum, Ground Zero, and Po’ Monkey’s and experience the musical heritage of Mississippi

Location:

Students will spend five Fridays on campus in Oxford and then travel to Clarksdale, Mississippi to engage in service-learning in the Delta, or an alternative trip, with the instructor’s approval.

Who should go?

Students will spend five Fridays on campus in Oxford from February 5 – March 4 for lectures and then travel to Clarksdale, Mississippi to engage in service-learning in the Delta from March 18-20, or an alternative trip, with the instructor’s approval.

Dates:

On-campus lecture dates are Friday, February 5, 12, 19, and 26, and March 4, 2016. Students will then spend March 18-20 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to engage in service-learning in the Mississippi Delta and gain experiential knowledge about values-based entrepreneurship.

Travel:

University provides travel via vans.  Students will stay in shared accommodations while on-site in the Mississippi Delta.

Costs:

Program cost is $750 plus tuition. Included in the cost are housing, meals, tours, and group ground transportation. Study USA application fee and personal spending money are excluded from the course fee.
