Application Deadline: April 9, 2020

  • Travel to Tulsa, OK in advance of the centennial of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.
  • Study the Tulsa Race Massacre in the context of the long history of the relocation and displacement of peoples to/from northeastern Oklahoma.
  • Conduct original research at the Greenwood Cultural Center and African American Resource Library archives.
  • Explore the intersectional nature of race and gender studies, especially looking at these topics through the lens of the fears of women, and the violence perpetrated against them.

Students will be in Oxford May 11 & 22, and in Tulsa, OK May 12-21.

This course is open to all majors. Gender Studies, African American Studies, Liberal Studies, Multi-Disciplinary Studies, History, Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, and English majors may be particularly interested in this course.

Prerequisites:

  • Required: WRIT 100 or 101
  • Recommended: GSt 201 or AAS 201

Course fee is $950 plus tuition. Included in the course fee are housing while in Tulsa, group ground transportation, and select group meals. Excluded from the cost are the Study USA application fee, meals, tuition, airfare, and personal spending money.

The instructor will be driving to and from Tulsa, students may travel with the instructor for no additional fee.
