The Writing Centers at UM-Desoto and UM-Tupelo are now open on-site and on-line.
One-on-one conferences may be arranged at either campus or via e-mail.
What is a writing center and what can it do for you?
The Writing Center provides a place for all UM-DeSoto, UM-Tupelo students to come to work on their writing. The Center is staffed by experienced consultants who have been trained to help others with their writing. The services are free to all UM students and include:
- Writing mentoring: One-on-one instruction, either on-site or on-line, about a specific project.
- Writing instruction: One-on-one instruction concerning different aspects of the writing process.
It's essential that you understand that a writing center is not a proof-reading service. The goal of the center is to help you become the best writer that you can be. Therefore, we assist you in all steps of the writing process, but the final product is, and must always be, yours. You can make an appointment for assistance at any point in the writing process, but our advice is to come early in the semester, bring your syllabi with writing assignments and dates highlighted, so that we may begin the conversation about your writing project in ample time for you to produce the best result possible.
