As an assigned user of a Division of Outreach social media account, you are being given access to create and schedule content on one or more social media accounts on behalf of the Division of Outreach.
We encourage staff to provide content that is original, includes students, faculty, and other staff, and is relevant to the assigned account. This could include but is not limited to images, video, text, and links. When scheduling, staff should keep the following in mind:
- Do respect fair use laws for publishing property that is proprietary and copyrighted.
- Do not post University policy or procedure information, such as detailed program admission criteria.
- Do give credit where it is due and recognize the source when publishing others’ content.
- Do not post anything that is outside of your area of authority and expertise.
- Do post content that is suitable for community members of all ages.
- Do not include any personally identifiable information that can be used to locate someone offline.
- Do follow the terms of service specific to the social media platforms you are using.
- Do not publish identifiable images of people without first obtaining their permission.
- Do not publish any private student information, such as grades, ID numbers, etc.
- Do not respond to a negative or otherwise controversial comments, messages, posts, or other forms of social communications without first consulting with the Office of Marketing and Communications.
In addition, staff should be aware that they may face disciplinary action if they engage in any of the following activities on a Division of Outreach account:
- Using profanity and/or offensive language
- Personally attacking any person or entity
- Harass or embarrass any person or entity
- Infringe on a copyright law or violate University policy
