Program Overview

JumpStart offers incoming freshmen the chance to begin their first year of college during the summer after they graduate from high school. The purpose of the program is to help students with their transition from high school to college life by immersing them in course rigor similar to what they will experience during their first Fall semester.

Students are enrolled as full time college students and start learning about life at Ole Miss before the rest of the freshman class. The program offers workshops, social activities, and mentorship. Program activities are designed to enhance the college experience and introduce students to the tools they need to make their college experience a success!

All activities are tentative and subject to change depending on scheduling, booking availability, and course adjustments.

What You'll Learn

Students will be enrolled in EDHE 105: The Ole Miss Experience. EDHE 105 is a classic Ole Miss elective course that is typically offered for incoming students during their first Fall semester. JumpStart students are unique in that they have the opportunity to take this course before anyone else! During this course, students will learn about university resources, meet with other staff and faculty across campus, participate in discussions, and reflect on their experiences and expectations related to college.

Additionally, students will be enrolled in a second course of their choosing.

Jared Ferguson

Success Coach and JumpStart Coordinator

My name is Jared Ferguson, and I am the Success Coach and JumpStart Coordinator in the Office of Pre-College Programs. I will also be your instructor for EDHE 105! I have worked at the university for about three years, and I will graduate this Spring with a Master of Arts in Higher Education. Prior to working with Pre-College, I was a Success Coach in the Center for Student Success and First Year Experience. Before coming to the University of Mississippi, I worked and studied at Emory University, where I earned a Master of Divinity. I am a native Texan and went to Texas A&M University for undergrad! In my spare time, I like to read, watch hockey, go for walks at the Whirlpool Trails, or grab coffee at Circle and Square. I can’t wait to meet you this summer!
