Attend a Provost Scholars workshop to learn how to move beyond high school and create a professional profile that will display your college achievements. This workshop focuses on basics of resumes and cover letters, while gaining insights into the benefits of hands-on professional experience.
Enroll in MDS 201
Take Introduction to Engaged Learning, where you’ll strengthen your awareness of the programs, experiences, and courses offered at the University of Mississippi that allow hands-on ways to explore your career interests, such as internships, undergraduate research, travel classes, and other experiential learning.
Attend a Career Center Consultation
Visit the university’s Career Center early and often for additional resume help, career advising, interview practice, and any other services that support your journey from college to career.

A Study USA course specially designed for Provost Scholars, focused on professional exploration, is offered sophomore year. During Spring Break travel, the class will visit regional employers to get an insider’s view of innovative workplaces and inspiring career paths.
You will also learn the ins and outs of networking — making alumni connections, learning about prospective internships, and building professional relationships that will serve as stepping stones for your next opportunity.

Join the UM Internship Experience
The UM Internship Experience (UMIE) is a year-long internship exploration, preparation, and support program, starting in October with the basics and wrapping up with a celebration of students’ summer success the following fall. UMIE staff guide and support you through a program that combines professional development, skill enhancement, and professional coaching through networking events, guest speakers, a peer community, mentorship, and embedded coursework.
The program meets you where you are — whether you’re new to resume writing or already have a summer internship lined up. UMIE is here to help you make the most of each stage of your internship process!

Take a Study USA class related to your major or professional interests during Winter or May intersessions.
