Scholarships and Grants
Undergraduate Scholarships
You must be admitted to the University to be considered for the scholarships listed below. Students must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and must be transferring directly from a community college. The calculation of the transfer GPA will include the grades from all prior colleges attended. You must be enrolled full-time to receive these awards. The total scholarship award is not to exceed the cost of attendance.
Eligible GPA is based on the University’s method of calculating transfer GPA.
Community College Leadership Scholarships
Community College Leadership Scholarships
Award Amount: $6,000 ($3,000 per year for two years)
Eligibility: Community College Transfer students with at least a 3.0 transfer GPA on at least 30 transferable college credit hours and an exemplary record of leadership and service.
How to Apply: Complete the Community College Transfer Scholarship Application by the priority deadline of March 1st. The Community College Transfer Scholarship Application will close on April 1, 2024.
Community College Student Body President Scholarships
Community College Student Body President Scholarship
Award Amount: $3,000 ($1,500 per year for two years)
Eligibility: Community College Transfer students who served in the top elected position at their Community College. These scholarships are awarded to community college transfer students with a 3.0 overall transfer GPA or higher and 30 transferable college credit hours. Students must be enrolled full-time to receive this award.
How to Apply: Provide documentation of status to the Office of Financial Aid. Documentation may be faxed to 662-915-1164.

Eagle Scout/Gold Award
Award Amount: $1,500 per year ($750 per semester) for two years (fall and spring semesters).
Eligibility: Entering community college transfer students who have achieved the levels of Eagle Scout or Gold Award.
How to Apply: Provide documentation of status to the Office of Financial Aid within the first term of enrollment.
Lyceum Scholars Awards
Award Amount: Full resident tuition for two years
Eligibility: Community college transfer students with at least a 3.0 transfer GPA on at least 30 transferable college credit hours and an exemplary record of leadership and service.
How to Apply: Complete the Community College Transfer Scholarship Application by the priority deadline of March 1st. The Community College Transfer Scholarship Application will close on April 1, 2024.
Dr. M. Lynne Murchison Scholarship
Dr. M. Lynne Murchison Scholarship
Award Amount: $500 per year ($250 per semester for one academic year)
Eligibility: Undergraduate transfer students who have been admitted to one of the UM regional campuses. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA, based on the university's method of calculating the transfer GPA, on a minimum of 48 hours from a community/junior college.
How to Apply: One regional campus student is selected each year from nominations provided by faculty and staff at each campus.
Military Service Non-Resident Scholarships
Military Service Non-Resident Scholarships
Award Amount: This scholarship is a fee-specific award to cover the non-resident fee only. It may be combined with other non-resident scholarships only until the full non-resident charge is met. There will be no funds disbursed in excess of the full non-resident charge.
Eligibility: New students who have been engaged in and honorably discharged from active duty for other than training purposes in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard.
How to Apply: Apply for admission to the University of Mississippi. Provide a copy of the DD214 to the Veterans' Administrator in the Registrar's Office. Documentation may be faxed to (662) 915-7793.
Mississippi Community College Advantage Scholarships
Mississippi Community College Advantage Scholarships
Award Amount: $10,000 ($5,000 per year)
Eligibility: Community College transfer students who are MS residents with at least 30 transferable college credit hours and at least a 2.5 or higher overall transfer GPA. Students must be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant and have a family adjusted gross income of $30,000 or less (as reported on the previous year’s Federal tax return.). This is a competitive scholarship, and 25 awards are made each year.
How to Apply:To be considered for this scholarship, transfer students must have a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file (the priority date is March 1), Priority will be given to students who submit the online Community College Transfer Scholarship Application.

New Century Scholarship
Award Amount: Full resident tuition for two years (fall and spring semesters)
Eligibility: Community College transfer students with at least a 3.0 GPA based on the university's method of calculating the transfer GPA and named a New Century Scholar.
How to Apply: No separate application required; student must provide documentation of status to the Office of Financial Aid within the first term of enrollment.
Next Step Scholarship – UM Regional Campus Part-Time Student Scholarship
Next Step Scholarship – UM Regional Campus Part-Time Student Scholarship
Award Amount: Rates of scholarship are as follows (winter/spring, summer/fall):

Eligibility: Awarded to regional campus students (in-state and out-of-state) attending Ole Miss-Grenada as their home campus. Students must be enrolled as part-time (3-11 hours each semester). Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need. The Next Step Scholarship can be awarded for an online course if a student enrolls in at least one traditional course (face-to-face) at Ole Miss-Grenada.
How to Apply: Students must complete the Next Step Scholarship Application. A 250-word essay explaining need and why you should be considered must be attached to your application. Complete a FAFSA if you have not already done so; the University of Mississippi financial aid school code is 002440. Return the application to Jessica Coker-Hughes or LaTonya Pittman.
Deadlines: Fall — October 1; Spring — March 1; Summer — July 1
Osher Reentry Scholarships
Award Amount: Up to $2,500 per year ($1,250/semester) Awards are subject to availability of funds.
Eligibility: Students who are pursuing their first baccalaureate degree, have experienced a cumulative gap in their education of five or more years since high school graduation or attainment of GED, are enrolled at least half-time, are US citizens between 25 and 50 years old, and have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
How to Apply: Complete the Osher Reentry Scholarship Application online beginning April 1, with a deadline of June 30.
UM Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
UM Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
Award Amount: $4,000 ($2,000 per year for two years)
Eligibility: Transfer students with a GPA of 3.25 or higher on at least 30 transferable college credit hours and membership in Phi Theta Kappa. Members of the All-Mississippi Team will receive an additional one-time only $1,000 scholarship and an additional $1,000 one-time only scholarship will be awarded to those students who become members of the All-American Team. These awards can be stacked with the Transfer Academic Merit Scholarships.
How to Apply: No separate application required; PTK indicated on official transcript or students may bring a copy of the PTK membership card to the Office of Financial Aid or fax a copy to 662-915-1164.

Phi Theta Kappa President Scholarships
Phi Theta Kappa President Scholarships
Award Amount: $1,000 ($500 per year for two years)
Eligibility: Community College Transfer Students who served as the president of Phi Theta Kappa at their community college. These scholarships are awarded to community college transfer students with a 3.25 overall transfer GPA and 30 transferable college credit hours. Full-time enrollment is required.
How to Apply: Provide documentation of status to the Office of Financial Aid within the first term of enrollment. Documentation may be faxed to 662-915-1164.
Robert D. Oesterling Regional Campus Out-of-State Scholarships
Robert D. Oesterling Regional Campus Out-of-State Scholarships
Award Amount: Cost of out-of-state fee.
Eligibility: Out-of-state transfer students who have been admitted to an Ole Miss undergraduate degree-seeking program on a regional campus receive an out-of-state-fee scholarship that is applied only to courses taken at a regional campus. Students must maintain a 2.0 resident GPA to continue receiving the scholarship.
How to Apply: Apply for admission to the University of Mississippi and be sure to indicate which regional campus you plan to attend on your admissions application.

Transfer Academic Merit Scholarship 1
Transfer Academic Merit Scholarship 1
Award Amount: $8,000 ($4,000 per year for two years)
Eligibility: These scholarships are awarded to transfer students with a 3.0 – 3.49 overall transfer GPA or higher and 30 transferable college credit hours. Students must be enrolled full-time to receive this award. This award can be stacked with Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships.
How to Apply: Students must complete the University of Mississippi admissions application. There is no additional application required.

Transfer Academic Merit Scholarship 2
Award Amount: $12,000 ($6,000 per year for two years)
Eligibility: These scholarships are awarded to transfer students with a 3.5 or higher overall transfer GPA and 30 transferable college credit hours. Students must be enrolled full-time to receive this award. This award can be stacked with Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships.
How to Apply: Students must complete the University of Mississippi admissions application. There is no additional application required.

UM-Rankin Student Ambassador Scholarships
UM-Rankin Student Ambassador Scholarships
Award Amount: $250 per semester
Eligibility: Current UM-Rankin students who would like to help promote UM-Rankin and provide assistance to prospective students. Students from all walks of life are encouraged to apply, whether you are a transfer student from an area community college or a working student who is trying to complete a graduate degree.
How to Apply: Contact the UM-Rankin office for an application and return to Jessica Coker-Hughes or LaTonya Pittman.
UM Regional Campus Scholarships
UM Regional Campus Scholarships
Award Amount: Rates of scholarship are as follows: A student with a 3.5 to 4.0 GPA receives $1,000 per semester for four consecutive fall/spring semesters. A student with a 2.5 to 3.499 GPA receives $400 per semester for four consecutive fall/spring semesters.
Eligibility: Students must be transferring to a regional campus; award is available to Mississippians only; applicants must have at least a 2.50 GPA based on the University’s method of calculating the transfer GPA, and must have a minimum of 48 transferable community college hours.
How to Apply: Apply for admission to the University of Mississippi and complete the UM Regional Campus Scholarship Application online by June 30 or by January 1 for spring admission. A letter of recommendation is also required for consideration by the application deadline.
Undergraduate Grants
Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required for all forms of financial aid for which you might apply. Be sure to include the University of Mississippi school code on your FAFSA: 002440.
Federal Pell Grant
Award Amount: Up to $5,920 per year ($2,960 per semester) is available to qualifying students. Award amounts are prorated based on the number of hours for which you are enrolled.
Eligibility: Determined by the federal processor based on a formula approved by Congress. The formula uses the information that is supplied by the parent and/or student on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Only undergraduate students who have not previously received a bachelor’s degree are eligible. Students may receive up to the lifetime limit, which is the equivalent of 6 full-time years in college (600 percent).
How to Apply: Complete the FAFSA application online.
Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG)
Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG)
Award Amount: Up to $1,000 per year ($500 per semester); MTAG is prorated for those students who receive a Pell Grant; therefore, students who receive the maximum Pell award will not be eligible for MTAG.
Eligibility: One-year Mississippi residency and full-time enrollment are required with a 2.50 cumulative GPA. Fifteen hours must be completed each semester.
How to Apply: Complete the MTAG application online. All requirements must be completed by September 15 of each year.
Sumner's Grant
Eligibility Requirements
- The student must be a resident of Attala, Carroll, Choctaw, Montgomery or Webster County in Mississippi who desires and can benefit from a higher education.
- All applicants must have resided for 12 continuous months in one of the five Sumner’s counties prior to enrollment.
- All applicants must be enrolled in a degree program at the institution. Teacher certification courses may also be approved (except for visiting students) if documented as such by the School of Education.
- The amount of the Sumner’s Grant shall not exceed the cost of attendance when combined with all other types of aid received by the student (including institutional and other scholarships/grants, military stipends, veterans' benefits).
- Independent students who have not established a residence in one of the Sumner’s counties may not establish eligibility by the address of parents who reside in one of the eligible counties.
- If you withdraw from the university within the 100 percent institutional refund period (the first 10 days of classes), any scholarship that has already credited to your bursar account must be repaid in full.
To Apply for the Grant:
You must complete the form online and indicate the academic year for which you are applying. The Sumner’s Foundation verifies residency in the appropriate counties for all applicants.
Amount of Grant
Since the amount received by The University of Mississippi from the Sumner’s Trust may vary each year, as will the number of students enrolled from each of the eligible counties, it is possible that grant amounts may also vary from one year to the next. The following illustrates our current awarding expectations.

Renewal Requirements
- A student must maintain satisfactory academic progress as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.
- Application must be made annually.
- All other criteria must be met, including continued residency in a Sumners county.
- The recipient cannot receive this award for more than one degree at the same level (e.g., one undergraduate degree, one master's degree).
