This course, exclusively available to Provost Scholars, will allow you to examine your professional interests, learn communication skills, practice networking, and explore various career paths through classroom instruction, site visits, and engagement with professionals in different industries.

Travel Overview

Go beyond textbooks and lecture halls. Study USA’s travel courses combine academic learning with hands-on, real world experiences. Every class maximizes its unique location with immersive activities. 

You’ll earn academic credit, apply what you’re learning directly to your surroundings, and engage in lively class experiences—all guided by Ole Miss faculty.

What You'll Do

  • Meet employers in a wide range of industries.
  • Get an understanding of what living in Nashville might be like.
  • Visit the Country Music Hall of Fame.
  • See the famous Parthenon.
  • Immerse yourself in Nashville’s culture.

What You'll Learn

  • Develop a professional vision and goals document that articulates a five-year post-graduate career trajectory.
  • Identify and evaluate internship, employment, advanced education, and professional development opportunities.
  • Develop networking strategies, including informational interviews, to build professional relationships.
  • Gain experience with professional communication, networking, and opportunity-seeking.

All activities are tentative and subject to change depending on scheduling, booking availability, and course adjustments.

Meet Your Instructors

All Study USA courses are designed and led by Ole Miss faculty. Your instructor(s) will be your first point of contact during your travels and lead you through all the class experiences. 

Dr. Ashleen Williams

Instructional Assistant Professor

Dr. Williams is an Instructional Assistant Professor at the University of Mississippi, where she works in the Office of the Provost to support the First-Generation College Student initiatives. Dr. Williams is the faculty advisor to the First-Gen Student Network and the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. She has over ten years of experience in university teaching and lecturing, curriculum development, and academic innovation.

Dr. Williams holds a PhD in History with a focus on the Modern Middle East, and has conducted research and teaching in Qatar, Yemen, Bahrain, and Kuwait. She is a Mitchell Scholar, a Fulbright Scholar, and a recipient of several awards, including the K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award and the IHL Excellence in Diversity Award. She has published and presented in various journals and conferences and is passionate about peace and conflict studies, public policy, and international relations.

This is a Study USA course specially designed for Provost Scholars, focused on professional exploration. During Spring Break travel, the class will visit regional employers to get an insider’s view of innovative workplaces and inspiring career paths.
