Oxford String Project (OSP)- Guitar aims to build excellent guitar players for students in 6th through 9th grades. Guitar classes and rehearsals are designed to teach guitar in an enjoyable, active and stimulating environment under the guidance of Mr. Ted Rogers.
The guitar rehearsals will take place on Wednesdays from 4:15–5:15 p.m. in the various classrooms of the UM Music Building.
In addition to classes and rehearsals, OSP-G students receive basic musicianship skills to facilitate their ability to read, write, sing, and harmonize. The OSP-G concert will highlight players’ beautiful tone, musical, and technical abilities.
Students need to purchase or rent their own guitar. We recommend nylon-string classical guitars, available at local stores like Cort and Lucero in sizes 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and full. Classical guitars are preferred, but students can use their own acoustic guitar if they have one—electric guitars are not suitable. Students will also need to purchase “The Christopher Parkening Guitar Method - Volume 1: Guitar” Method Book.
