Grants for Online Instruction
The Division of Outreach and Continuing Education and the Office of Academic Outreach offer 3 grant opportunities to encourage the exploration of online, blended, or hybrid education.
UM online instructors may use these grants to attend professional conferences, workshops, or meetings to develop their online teaching practices.
Conference Travel Grant
Award & Use
Award up to $1,500 for travel expenses to a professional conference, meeting or workshop focused on distance, online, blended or hybrid education or instructional strategies.
Eligibility
Any online instructors who have taught within the last academic year and are endorsed by Academic Outreach may apply. Preference is given to those presenting research or scholarship at the event.
Eligible applicants include:
- Full-time instructors teaching an online course
- Full-time online-only instructors
- Part-time online instructors
Application Deadline
Submit conference travel applications at least four weeks before departure. Funding is limited, and early submission is encouraged.
A committee from the Division of Outreach and Continuing Education reviews applications. The selection process is competitive, and partial funding may be awarded.
Terms & Reimbursement
Terms
- The award will not exceed $1,500.
- Each applicant may receive only one award for one conference trip per fiscal year.
- Funding is subject to applicable University travel policies.
Reimbursement
- Departments agree to cover travel costs for grant recipients.
- Departments will be reimbursed for travel costs upon completion of travel and reimbursement of expenses. See Policy for Online Instructor Conference Grant Reimbursement.
Declining & Returning an Award
- Please inform the Division of Outreach and Continuing Education if you decide to decline or return the award, or if you are unable to attend the conference, so that other travel awards may be funded.
- Failure to communicate with Academic Outreach the declining or returning of a travel grant will result in ineligibility in future Academic Outreach grant opportunities.

On-Campus Travel Grant
Award & Use
Full-time online-only faculty can receive up to $1,000 for travel expenses to attend a pre-approved required departmental training or orientation on the Oxford campus.
Eligibility
Full-time online-only faculty residing outside of Oxford or Lafayette County are eligible.
Pre-Approval Deadline
Academic Departments should submit the On-Campus Travel Request Form for pre-approval at least four weeks prior to travel.
Terms & Reimbursement

- The award will not exceed $1,000.
- Each applicant may receive only one award for one on-campus trip per fiscal year.
- Academic Departments must obtain pre-approval through the Academic Outreach office for on-campus travel funding.
- Funding is subject to applicable University travel policies.
